Just Making A Difference- One Dog at A Time

The Pretty Pittie Committee is a woman owned, Foster based 501(c)3 non profit organization that is dedicated to the underdog!

We take pride in being able to provide second chances to the Southern Shelters and Street dogs that deserve so much more than what they have been given. Each dog has a story, and each dog deserves a second chance.

All of our dogs are in foster homes with children, other dogs and animals, so that we can learn the dog and know exactly what he or she needs and what kind of environment they will thrive in, While learning their likes and dislikes we are able to pair each dog with the correct family.

Our main priority is to throughly set the DOGS and FAMILIES adopting up for success.

We understand that every dog can be deserving of love but unfortunately, we do not take in ~ or put out behavioral issue animals into the universe*

Focusing on transports to the North -East We partner with several other shelters, SPCA’s and Rescue Organizations to lower the abundance of unwanted animals here and for those that are able to find happiness in homes across the globe.

We also work endlessly to assist those in our community in hopes to decrease the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted dogs and puppies in our area by encouraging and assisting with local spay and neuters, food, and routine veterinary care at little to no cost, so that families are able to keep their beloved pet at home, happy. healthy and loved! while we educate and advocate for those who have been forgotten and left behind our goal is to always speak up for those without a voice & ensure every deserving dog is treated like family, and not property!

The Pretty Pittie committee offers low cost Spay / Neuter & Vaccines for lower income areas & families in need,By providing these options their beloved pets are able to stay in the home with their family without the added stress of an unwanted litter.

“These dogs came from the streets and shelters from the south, inside these prison walls, they found their first real home. Now they’re ready to find their forever one.”

What is the prison program?

Every dog in our prison program has a story.

Abandoned or Overlooked maybe sitting for months at an overcrowded shelter with no light at the end of the tunnel.

The people caring for them? They understand that feeling more than most. Through our prison program,Incarcerated individuals are given the responsibility of nurturing, training, and loving a dog who needs them just as much as they need the dog. It’s a second chance on both ends of the leash. The dogs leave better socialized, trained, and ready to be a productive member of society, just like what we hope for our handlers. providing a safe space for a dog and building relationships and encouraging change within individuals. We believe that together we can make a difference and we’re giving more than just a dog a chance to heal, grow and learn what real love is!

What do they learn?

The dogs at the prison stay for any amount of time, while they are there, They learn basic house manners, commands such as - Sit, Stay, Come, Heel. Down.

We have an AKC trainer that volunteers her time to mimic the K9 Good Citizen training certification.

While both the dog and handler build a bond, trust and learn to love in a safe, structured environment.

How do you get a prison dog?

By following our Facebook or looking on petfinder, and filling out an application - A volunteer will reach out to you to discuss transportation opportunities.

** not all of our dogs are in the prison, some are in foster care that are equally as great!

What adopters should know!

When you adopt a prison pup you are giving an older dog A chance at a happy life, skipping over the puppy stage - you are getting a trained dog that probably wouldn’t have gotten a chance but because of our friends, the dogs are well behaved and have the potential to continue training if you want, well rounded dogs that get along with all people and other dogs!

All dogs are altered, current on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested or treated.

How can you help?

We are so grateful for the support we have had thus far, and we are only just getting started! We are working towards a training building where we will be able to help more dogs, more inmates and have more skills and learning opportunities.

& by ordering off our wishlist the donations go straight to the prison!
